, Inc. has a written Safety Manual,
Safety Committee, Safety Director, and Drug Free Work Place
policy as designated by the State of Florida. The goal of
the company’s Safety Program is 0 work place injuries.
The message taught at each level from management to labor
– Saftey is a responsibility assumed by everyone on
the job!
The framework of the Safety Manual includes employee training,
safety inspections, incident investigations, first aid training,
safety bulletins, weekly job site toool box talks, and a hazardous
communications program established in accordance with the
US Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSIER) and the Florida Right-To-Know-Act.
New hire training, as outlined in the manual, stresses safety
education as part of an employee’s indoctrination program.
Field employees, required to attend weekly safety training
meetings, are encouraged to observe all company safety rules
and policies. Superintendents and foremen are responsible
to ensure job sites are clean and run according to all company
safety policies.
To assure all OSHA requirements are met and exceeded, the
Safety Director conducts periodic job site inspections. The
Safety Committee, composed of field and management personnel,
is chaired by the Director. Meeting monthly, the committee
reviews each incident and regularly evaluates policies and
workplace practices. Lake Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is
primarily interested in the safety of each worker on every
project.
Training
Lake Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is dedicated to craftsmanship
through its commitment to a highly trained work force.
By its continued participation in apprenticeship programs
through Associated Builders and Contractors, Lake Mechanical
works to allay industries concerns’ for the next generation
of craftsman. Lake Mechanical Contractors’ apprentices
are honored nationally for their skill through peer awards
competition.
Having served as president, and now as a trustee of the Construction
Education Foundation, John B. Smith, Lake Mechanical’s
president, lends his personal commitment to training. This
Foundation is part of the National Associated Builders and
Contractors. Through its participation the company has committed
endowment funds to the Foundation to insure the next generation
of craftsmen are prepared for skilled construction jobs. This
Foundation is providing for the future of the industry with
Lake Mechanical in the forefront of this effort.
The Academy of Construction Trades (ACT) is a Central Florida
apprenticeship program for high school students The partnership
between construction companies and public schools enrolls
Juniors and Seniors in a program offering academic courses
and field training in the trades. Graduates are guaranteed
a job with their sponsoring firm. Lake Mechanical is a founding
member of ACT and the company’s Director of Human Resources
is a member of the Board of Directors.
Training opportunities includes vendor seminars, advanced
project management and superintendent training at Clemson
University, employee tuition reimbursement, safety training
and skills upgrading. The company provides for the education
to its work force to meet today’s demanding construction
environment.
The goal of Lake Mechanical Contractors’ training program
is craftsmanship, quality, and efficiency.
